The Pentlands

  • Walks

The Pentlands are a scenic range located just outside of Edinburgh, offering a variety of walking trails and amazing views over the city and surrounding countryside.

The Pentland Hills sit just southwest of Edinburgh and offer a peaceful escape from the city, with gentle rolling hills, quiet reservoirs, and well-marked trails. Stretching over 20 miles, the park is a popular spot for walking, running, and cycling, with routes ranging from short, family-friendly paths to more challenging hill walks. The landscape is a mix of open moorland, farmland, and woodland, with plenty of wildlife to spot along the way.

On a clear day, the higher peaks offer great views across Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth, and beyond, while lower routes wind through sheltered valleys and alongside reservoirs like Harlaw, Threipmuir, and Glencorse. Easily accessible by public transport or car, the Pentlands are a great option for a quick getaway from the city and a chance to enjoy some fresh air and open space without venturing too far.
